List of registered investment advisers by state (SEC Form ADV)
The SEC publishes a free monthly file of every registered investment adviser (RIA) and a second file of exempt reporting advisers, which includes most venture capital and private equity managers. This page says where to get them, what is in them and what is not, and how to get from firm names to a contact list.
Where the data is
Both files are on the SEC's Form ADV data page at sec.gov (search "Information About Registered Investment Advisers and Exempt Reporting Advisers"). They are US government data in the public domain. The September 2026 registered-adviser file holds 17,210 firms.

What the file contains
Firm and legal name, CRD and SEC numbers, main-office address and phone, website, assets under management band, employee count, and flags for the kinds of private funds the firm advises. It does not contain email addresses, and it names no contact person.
From the file to a contact list
- Filter the file to your state and take the
Websitecolumn. - Run those sites through Website Contact Details Scraper; the column
bestEmailgives the address published on each site. Social-network-only websites (about a third of firms) return nothing. - Expect roughly 4 firms in 10 to return a role address (info@ and similar); chains and large firms often publish a form only.
