FMCSA insurance cancellation list and MC suspension list: what it is and how to pull it

By Keencrest · 2026-11-01

Read this first. A cancelled insurance filing or an operating-authority suspension notice is an administrative record kept by FMCSA, the US Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. It is not evidence that a company did anything wrong. Carriers switch insurers, a new policy is often filed days later, and many notices are lifted before they take effect. This guide shows how to get the records as a table for business uses such as insurance, factoring and freight-matching outreach, and it does not rate or accuse any company.

Keencrest makes the tool used here (New US Trucking Carriers, published on Apify under the Data Gleaner name). The data comes from files FMCSA publishes on the US Department of Transportation's open data portal.

What the list contains

With feed: coverage, one row is one cancelled insurance or bond filing, or one suspension notice, in the date window you choose, with FMCSA's own status wording in officialStatus. Rows also carry the company's state, fleet size, authority type, the insurance required and on file today, and newPolicyFiled, which is true when a later filing of the same coverage type has taken effect. Policy numbers are never output.

Price

$0.004 per carrier row ($4.00 per 1,000). Notice rows, records dropped as possible sole proprietors and rows removed by your filters are free. A maximum spend per run caps the bill.

A real run

On 6 November 2026 we ran it on Apify's servers for the last 3 days, liability (BIPD) cancellations of motor carriers only, capped at 10 rows. Input to reproduce it:

{"feed": "coverage", "daysBack": 3, "coverageEvents": ["insuranceCancelled"], "coverageTypes": ["bipd"], "authorityTypes": ["motorCarrier"], "maxItems": 10}

Run cPRsYKN4ICmp2MDDW returned 10 rows. We show only company-level fields and leave out names and registration numbers, because this guide is about the format, not about any carrier:

All 10 rows are cancelled liability filings. At the time of the run, 7 of the 10 companies showed authority status Inactive and 3 Active in FMCSA's carrier file, and none showed a newer policy yet. Those are FMCSA's status words on the day we ran it, and they say nothing about why a filing ended. The "liability on file today" column can still show an amount because the carrier file is updated on its own schedule. With only 3 days and 10 rows this is a sample of the format, not a statistic about the industry.

How to run it

  1. Open the Actor, set feed to coverage and daysBack to 7.
  2. Set coverageEvents to insuranceCancelled and/or involuntarySuspension, add states if you cover a region, and cap maxItems for a first run.
  3. Export the dataset as CSV or JSON and filter on newPolicyFiled.

The same Actor also lists newly registered carriers and newly granted authority; see the weekly new carriers page.

Try it: New US Trucking Carriers on Apify. $0.004 per carrier row; notices and filtered rows are free. The Apify free plan includes monthly credit, so a test run costs nothing out of pocket.
