Businesses without websites: lead lists by city
If you build websites, a business with a good rating, real reviews and no website of its own is the warmest prospect there is: the customers already exist and the business has nowhere to send them. Google Maps shows who they are, but it has no filter for "no website", so you have to scan the listings and keep the ones with an empty website slot.
What counts as no website
- Nothing listed. The listing has a phone and an address and no link.
- A social page only. The website slot holds a Facebook, Instagram or link-in-bio page. These businesses have no site of their own, and they are often the easiest to talk to because they already pay attention to being found online.
- A directory page. The link goes to a listing on a third-party directory, not to the business.
Steps
- Open Businesses Without Websites: Local Leads for Web Designers on Apify.
- Enter one or more trades (
plumber, hair salon) and one or more cities (Austin, TX). Every trade is searched in every city. - Set
maxLeadsPerSearch(10 for a test) and, outside the US, acountrycode such asgborca. - Run it and export the dataset as CSV or JSON.
{"trades":["plumber"],"locations":["Austin, TX"],"maxLeadsPerSearch":20}
What came back
A run on plumbers in Austin returned 20 businesses, each with a phone, an address, a rating and a review count. Two of the 20 listed only a social page (one Facebook, one Instagram) and were flagged hasOnlySocialPage. A sample:
| Business | Rating (reviews) | Listed link |
|---|---|---|
| Plumb Masters, Inc. | 4.8 (442) | Facebook page only |
| Mendez Family Plumbing & Electrical | 4.9 (130) | none |
| Demoss Plumbing Company Inc | 3.0 (24) | none |
| ADK Plumbing | 4.9 (17) | none |
Scale matters. Only a small share of Maps listings lack a website: in the Austin plumber run about 13 of 140 listings scanned qualified, so a rare trade in a small town needs a wider search area to fill a list. Split a big city into districts to go past the roughly 200 places one search returns. The Actor page lists ready-made example tasks you can copy: Austin plumbers, Leeds hair salons and Toronto restaurants.
How reliable is the "no website" label
Maps sometimes lacks a link the business really has. The Actor guesses likely domains from the name and drops a lead if the home page shows the same phone number, then runs a name and city web search as a second check. Leads it could not confirm either way come back marked websiteCheck: unverified, which in our test was roughly one lead in five or six. By hand, 6 of 6 random Austin leads had no site of their own. That is a small sample, so open a few listings before you send anything.
Cost
$0.004 per qualified business. Listings that have a website, duplicates and rejects are not billed. A 10-lead test costs about $0.04 and 120 leads about $0.48.
Good practice
- Sort by review count: 50 to 500 reviews with no website means a trading business that already has customers.
- Open with something you can see, such as their rating and the missing site, and keep the message about their business.
- Call before you email: these listings usually have a phone and no email.
Try it: Businesses Without Websites on Apify. $0.004 per qualified business. The Apify free plan includes monthly credit, so a test run costs nothing out of pocket.
