Estimated counts of Shopify and WooCommerce stores on country domains: Australia, the UK, New Zealand, Canada and Ireland. Numbers come from our own random sample of a public web crawl, with a 95% interval on each, so you can see how sure the figure is. Counts only: no names, emails or phone numbers.

How many Shopify stores are there in Australia?
About 13,421 on .au domains (95% interval 11,737-15,331). Stores on a .com domain are not counted, and Shopify stores whose homepage does not show Shopify's markers are missed, so the real figure is higher.
How many WooCommerce stores are there in the UK?
About 30,007 on .uk domains (95% interval 26,225-34,302) that show WooCommerce's markup on the homepage.
Why are these lower bounds?
Detection reads the Shopify or WooCommerce markers in the archived homepage HTML. Stores that load them only on inner pages, or sit behind a different domain, are not found. Treat the counts as a floor.
Are Wix and Squarespace counts available?
Yes: how many websites use Wix and Squarespace, same countries and method.
Method
- Population: every registered domain on the country TLD that has a successful (HTTP 200) homepage capture in Common Crawl CC-MAIN-2026-43, counted once per domain (column 2).
- Sample: a random sample of 4,000 of those homepages per country, the same draw for both platforms. Homepages whose archived size is too small to hold a platform's markup (under 12,000 bytes for Shopify, 4,500 for WooCommerce) are skipped and counted as non-matches, which can understate slightly.
- Detection: the platform's own markers in the archived homepage HTML (Shopify theme and cdn.shopify.com/s/files assets, myshopify.com links; WooCommerce plugin paths and scripts). A DNS check on every domain finds more Shopify stores than HTML alone, so the Shopify column is a conservative floor.
- Interval: Wilson 95% interval on the sample share, scaled by the number of domains.
- Politeness: archived pages are read from Common Crawl with back-off on throttling; no site was fetched directly and no proxies were used.
