n8n template: RSS feed to Slack or Discord (new items only)

By Keencrest · 2026-11-01

Downloads: n8n-rss-to-slack.json and n8n-rss-to-discord.json. Import with Workflows, Import from file. They work with any RSS or Atom address; the examples on our "is it down" pages use vendor status page feeds.

The three nodes

NodeWhat it does
RSS Feed TriggerPolls the feed every 10 minutes. The feed address is the only setting; the trigger remembers the items it already emitted, so each new item fires once
Build Slack / Discord messageCode node: one message for all items found in that poll, 10 lines at most, titles cleaned of characters that break the format; the Discord version cuts the text at 1,900 characters
Post to Slack / DiscordHTTP Request POST to your incoming webhook URL. No OAuth app and no credential to create

Cost and limits

Nothing is billed by us. n8n Cloud counts executions against its plan; self-hosted n8n does not. The first activation can post the feed's recent backlog once, so test with a throwaway channel. Status feeds list updates as separate items, so one incident may produce several messages.

What was tested

The JSON was checked for structure (unique node ids, every connection pointing at an existing node, no token) and each Code node was run in Node against sample feed items to check the message text and the length limit. It was not imported into a live n8n or posted to Slack or Discord in this build; if an import complains, tell us which node and we will fix the file.
