Is my business name taken? UK, Australia, Canada, Ireland and New Zealand

By Keencrest · 2026-11-01

A name has to clear separate registers: the company or business-name register, the trademark database, and the domain system. Pick your country or Canadian jurisdiction for the official search link and the notes on what it misses. For the United States see the state-by-state page.

Countries

Canada: federal layer and provinces

Link checks

We loaded each official address once on 2026-11-01. 8 of 18 reached a page; 10 refused, failed or did not answer a plain request (mostly HTTP 403 from a web firewall, one browser-verification page) and are marked "link not verified". We did not work around the blocks. Australia's business-name and company searches sit with ASIC and we could not read that page; we make no claim here about whether Australian states keep separate registers.

The domain layer

Check a list of names against many extensions at once with the Bulk Domain Availability Checker, $0.001 per domain answered.

Try it: Bulk Domain Availability Checker on Apify. $0.001 per domain answered, unknown rows free. The Apify free plan includes monthly credit, so a test run costs nothing out of pocket.
